As a young Christian in my late teens I had taken to memorising Bible verses from the psalms one after another using a technique taught by my primary school teacher. I would read the first sentence, then look up at the ceiling and as though looking at the Bible I would read the sentence off the ceiling like printed words. Once read correctly off the ceiling, I moved on to the second sentence and it would join the first on the ceiling. In this way I would be able to visualise the whole verse and eventually the whole psalm.
In later years, and going through a period of challenges I felt the need to have the Word near, on the tip of my tongue but found it difficult to remember. I was reminded of this technique and used it to memorise key verses I could call upon at need. It was from this place that I wrote the following poem, ‘Memorise It’.
Memorise It
Read the word and memorise it
Read the word do not despise it
Let it sink into your heart
There to remain and never part
Read the word meditate on it
Let God reveal the truth within it
Things the natural eye cannot see
The Spirit will show to you and me
Read the word then you will know it
And every day receive power to live it
Through good and bad thick and thin
The word will strengthen from within
Read the word just feast upon it
Let it fill your heart and soak you in it
With living waters from above
Quench your thirst in the Father's love
Read the word you need to know it
Study and show yourself approved in it
It is your life or didn’t you know
The Word is a seed you need to sow

Thank you, for these words of encouragement. An inspiring poem.
I fine if I write down the words and read it over and over or listen to it. I tend to remember.
